Nazareth Project Board of Directors

J. Welby Leaman, JD
Chair of the Nazareth Project Board, Welby Leaman volunteered at Nazareth Hospital in 1992. He is a Trade Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives' Ways and Means Committee and previously served at the Treasury Department and National Security Council, at law firms in New York and Washington DC, and in several positions in Latin America. He holds a B.S. from Messiah College and J.D. from Yale Law School and also serves on the board of MAP International. He is a member of Stumptown Mennonite Church in Bird in Hand, PA, and attends Grace Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC.


Eric S. Kennel
Vice Chair of the Nazareth Project Board, Eric Kennel has traveled widely and maintains an interest in the Middle East. He received his Masters in Public Administration from Penn State University, PA. He currently works as Director of Grant Development for Liberty Lutheran, a social services organization which supports children, youth, families, refugees/immigrants and seniors throughout Southeastern PA. Eric and his wife Elizabeth are members of Rivers Edge Fellowship, Lancaster, PA.



Marjorie K. Crystle  

Secretary of the Nazareth Project board, Midge Crystle is the former executive director of The Nazareth Project and served in this capacity for twelve years. She also volunteered at Nazareth Hospital in 1993 and 1995, both as an instructor in the nursing school and as an clinic nurse. She received her B.S. in Nursing Education from Millersville University, Millersville, PA. She is a member of East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.

Winfred J. Miller, CPA
Treasurer of the Nazareth Project Board, Winfred Miller has traveled in Israel and has an interest in helping the people of the Galilee. He is Founder and CEO of W.J. Miller Accounting and Bookkeeping Firm, Harrisonburg, VA. He received his accounting degree from Southern Colorado State University, CO. Winfred is a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, VA.



Roger K. Glick
An avid cyclist, Roger Glick has ridden in several Nazareth Hospital bike ride fundraisers through Israel, staying on to volunteer his time in service to the hospital. Mr. Glick currently works as a Violin Repairman at Russo Music Center, NJ and received his Masters of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from University of Illinois, IL. Roger and his wife live in Palmyra, New Jersey, and are members of Congregation Beth Yeshua in Philadelphia, PA. 



Jill M. Herr, M.D.

Jill Herr, of Mount Joy, PA, practiced family medicine in Pennsylvania for over ten years before leaving clinical practice in May 2012 to pursue a career in medical writing. Jill completed her residency at Central Maine Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program, in Lewiston, Maine. She received her Doctor of Medicine from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA in 1998. Jill is an active member of her congregation, Stumptown Mennonite Church, Bird in Hand, PA, where she has served on the worship planning committee. 


David R. Hiebert
David Hiebert is a cycling enthusiast who participated in two EMMS bike rides for Nazareth Hospital, as well as local cycling efforts in support of our work. He is active in Middle East awareness and advocacy groups. Mr. Hiebert is owner/and operator of The DeskTop publishing company, Scottdale, PA, and spent a combined total of twenty-six years as Editor and Graphic Designer for the Mennonite Publishing House in Scottdale, PA. Hiebert holds a journalism degree from Ball State University. David and his wife are members of Scottdale Mennonite Church.




David L. Hollinger
David Hollinger is chairman of Four Seasons Produce, Inc., in Ephrata, PA.   Mr. Hollinger founded the company in 1976, and it has become a large produce wholesale distributor in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.  In addition, Four Seasons has developed significant logistics and import/export operations.  Outside of Four Seasons, David has been involved in local and state politics serving in various roles. He previously served on his church board and was instrumental in the establishment of Living Word Academy, a private, Christian, K-12 learning center located in Leola, PA. Additionally, he and his wife, Debbie, established HOME International, which they used to successfully create girls homes in India where orphaned girls are positively impacted with a caring family environment, supported by love, security, education, and training. They attend the Worship Center, Leola, PA.



Marlene B. Lacy
Marlene Lacy works as Office Manager for Northern Arizona Infections, Ltd. Mark Lacy, MD, FACP, Flagstaff, AZ. She has a history with The Nazareth Project and Nazareth Hospital, through her father-in-law, husband, and daughter, all of whom served as hospital volunteers. Mrs. Lacy also has family ties to the region through her native Beirut, Lebanon. Lacy has her Masters of Science in Microbiology and Chemistry from the University of Arizona, Tuscan, and has worked as Chemistry Instructor and Medical Technologist. Marlene and her husband are members of Flagstaff Christian Fellowship.





Robert W. Martin, M.D.




Robert Martin spent a combined total of eighteen years serving at Nazareth Hospital, both practicing medicine and serving as General Director. Since his return to the US in 1995, he has continued to practice medicine. Dr. Martin served as NPI Board Chair from 2000-2012. He completed his residency at George Washington University Hospital, Washington, DC, and received his M.D. from Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, PA. Honors include Order of the British Empire, 1997 and Physician of the Year, Mennonite Medical Association, 1997. Robert and his wife are members of East Chestnut Street Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.


Ponnuswamy Swamidoss,PhD
Ponnuswamy Swamidoss serves as director of educational services for the American Public Health Association. Mr. Swamidoss has been a visiting Professor with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy, in Romania, and worked as a consultant in various hospital settings, including Nazareth Hospital, EMMS. He has his PhD from Howard University, where he has served as Associate Dean at its School of Continuing Education. Honors include Outstanding Teaching Award, Howard University College of Medicine, 1992, The Regent’s Award for Excellence, American College of Health Care Executives, 1989, and Outstanding Service Award, Howard University Hospital. He and his wife are members of Washington Community Fellowship, Washington, DC. 


Bonnie M. Zehr, M.D.
Bonnie Zehr first traveled to Nazareth for a fundraising bike ride in 1996. She and her husband Jerry, (another cyclist whom she met during that ride), have continued to support Nazareth Hospital in subsequent years. Dr. Zehr currently practices pediatric medicine with Roseville Pediatrics, Lancaster, PA. She completed her Pediatric Residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, and received her Doctor of Medicine from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. She and her husband are members of Neffsville Mennonite Church, Lancaster, PA.
